These soft, chewy and delicious Sugar Blossom cookies will be the highlight of your holiday dinner table! With that bright pop of holiday colors and a nice Hershey's Kiss in the middle, these little sweet treats are absolutely addictive and a total crowd pleaser.
Making them is super easy too! All you'll need is some kitchen staples and 10 minutes of prep time!
All throughout the year, you'll find me experimenting with lots of flavorful, savory foods. But there's just something different in the air as we approach the holidays, and it gets me in the mood to bake some sweet treats.
Lately, I've been trying out a lot of festive desserts and snacks with my Christmas simmer pot in the background, spreading the festive aroma all throughout my home. My Christmas fudge and Grinch Rice Krispie treats are big hits with the kids, and I'm obsessed with how my Rudolph brownies have turned out.
And we do have a bit more time on our hands to try another holiday recipe- don't we? So of course, I had to try some cookies too!

Recipe Ingredients
Flour: Just your regular all purpose flour.
Sugar: Use your regular granulated sugar, or brown sugar if you want the cookies to have a deeper, caramel-like flavor.
Eggs: To add structure to the cookie and to lend them that perfect chewy texture.
Butter: For the rich flavor. I used unsalted butter.
Vanilla: For the sweetness and aroma.
Milk: To soften the batter and add moisture to it.
Baking soda: To help the cookies rise.
Sprinkles: Choose festive-colored sprinkles. You'll need these to coat the cookies.
Hershey's Kisses: To decorate the cookies!
See the recipe card for quantities.
Variations & Substitutions
- I used red sprinkles to coat the cookies, because that's what I had at hand. You can use green or even a mix of red and green if you want to.
- If you don't have sprinkles, you can also coat the cookies with festive colored sparkling sugar to bring a bit of variation.
- Crushed candy cane cookies can also be a wonderful swap for your regular Christmas sprinkles here.
- You can stick to the regular Hershey's Chocolate Kisses or try using one of their festive edition versions like hot cocoa, candy cane or mint truffle.
How to Make Sugar Blossom Cookies
To make the Christmas Blossom cookies, start by preheating your oven to 350F, and lining a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In the bowl of a stand mixer, or a large bowl with a hand mixer, combine the sugar, egg, butter, milk and vanilla. Mix well.
- In a separate bowl, combine the flour, salt and baking soda. Whisk to combine.
- Add the flour mixture to the butter and sugar mixture, and mix on low until just combined.
- Use a small cookie scoop or spoon and roll dough into balls. Roll into Christmas sprinkles of your choice and place on prepared baking sheet.
- Bake for 10 minutes or until the edges are golden and cookies are set. When cookies are done, remove from the oven and place a Hershey kiss right In the center, and gently press down.
- Once cooled, serve the cookies or store them for later!
Storing Leftovers
You can store your leftover Sugar Blossom cookies for up to 4 days in an airtight container at room temperature. Make sure you keep it away from direct sunlight, ideally in a cool and dry place.
Tips & Tricks to Make the Sugar Blossom Cookies
- Make sure you unwrap the Hershey kisses and set them on a plate in the fridge to chill while you are making the cookies. This will help keep them from melting when you add them into the cookies.
- To lend the cookies a more festive flavor, swap the vanilla extract with peppermint extract.
- You can also add a sprinkle of pumpkin pie spice into the cookie dough if you want the sweet treats to have just that hint of holiday spice to them.
- Remember to allow the cookies to cool down for a bit on the wire rack. They will continue to cook as they cool down gradually, and the center which looks a bit undercooked will have that perfectly soft and chewy texture.
Serving Ideas & Suggestions
Enjoy these delicious Sugar Blossom cookies on their own, or feature them on your holiday table with other holiday favorites like herb roasted turkey or Cajun roasted chicken as the main, some sides of your choice and other Christmas desserts and treats.
If you don't want to cook a whole bird, but still want something delicious and hearty to serve as a main, try my baked turkey wings or smothered turkey wings.
I also love making my Jamaican black cake during the holidays- the perfect boozy dessert for the older crowd.
Recipe FAQs
You actually don't! This is one of those recipes that doesn't call for the cookie dough to be refrigerated.
Check the cookies at the 7-8 minute mark. If they seem slightly crispy on the edges and soft and a bit undercooked in the center, they're ready to come out.
You can! Try using a good gluten free flour meant for baking (the kind that comes with xanthan gum added in) in a 1:1 proportion as all purpose flour.
