I know folding or wrapping the spring rolls is sometimes a hassle. But it's easy, provided you follow the recipe and the tips I will give. So, read along.
Where Can I buy the Spring Roll Wrappers?
This can be found in Asian grocery stores or most grocery stores in the frozen food section. Do not be confused with the round rice wrappers; don't use those. Buy the square spring roll wrappers. Also, don't be confused with the wonton wrappers. You can ask the store attendant for help if need be.
What's in my Air Fryer Spring Rolls?
- Ground Chicken: You can use store-bought ground chicken or put some chicken breasts in a food processor and blend. You can substitute it for tofu or shrimp.
- Spring Roll Sheets: Since they are often sold frozen, make sure they thaw before use.
- Veggies: Shredded carrots and cabbage. I used regular cabbage, which can be substituted for napa cabbage. You can also add any veggies you like.
- Dry Ingredients: Garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and white pepper to taste.
- Condiments: Oyster sauce and soy sauce
- Oil: Cook the filling in cooking oil and brush some on the rolls before air-frying. Add sesame oil for extra flavour.
- Egg wash: Acts as a glue to seal the roll.
How To Wrap or Fold Spring Rolls.
- Place one spring roll wrapper on a clean surface with one corner pointing towards you (like a diamond shape). Place about 2 tablespoons of the chicken filling in the center of the wrapper.
- Fold the bottom corner of the wrapper over the filling, then fold the sides towards the center.
- Roll tightly upwards to seal the spring roll.
- Brush the top corner with egg wash to seal the roll.
Serving Ideas.
I always enjoy mine with sweet chilli sauce. You can also use hot mustard or chilli garlic sauce.
Sometimes, I serve these as a side with an Asian main like chicken and vegetable stir fry.
Storage: Any leftovers can be refrigerated in an airtight container for 2-3 days. To reheat, air fry again for about 5 minutes, but they won't be as crispy as before.
Also, I usually freeze the rolls and air fry them later. You can also freeze the already fried rolls for up to 2 months. Let them thaw at room temperature, spray oil on them and air fry again.
